From the Small to the Tall – Teapots all.

When we were adding the pages for Berta Hedstrom, Fielder Keepsakes, and Hues & Brews featured patterns for Valentine’s Day, we thought of our number one question asked when purchasing tea ware as a gift…what size teapot should I purchase?

A tea ware gift makes a meaningful surprise for anyone on your gift-giving list and is perfect for any occasion.  We have teapots and tea accessories for the beginning tea drinker to the connoisseur, so we have included some helpful tips in selecting the perfect size teapot for your family & friends.

Tips for determining the size of the Teapot

When we receive a call from our customers asking advise, we generally start with asking how is the teapot going to be used?  Usage is very helpful in determining the appropriate size for your gift.

  • If your loved one or friend only steeps tea in the morning or before retiring for the day, we recommend a smaller teapot. There are the Tea for One Duoswhich are very nice for gift giving because you have the individual teapot and the teacup together, and they are easy for on the go.  Many people use these at work too.  Small teapots are considered to have a capacity of 20 ounces or less.  They are easy to use and help conserve the tea leaves, if using loose leaf tea, while providing 1 or 2 cups of enjoyment.
  •  If your loved one or friend steeps tea to enjoy for a longer period throughout their day or if they will be serving guests then you need a teapot larger than 20 ounces.  There are a couple of things to keep in mind when selecting a larger teapot: A. Are they going to be drinking from teacups, tea mugs or tankards? Try to check the capacity of these also because you do not want them to have to steep another pot of tea before the cups are filled. B. If your gift recipient drinks several cups over a period of time, they might also need a tea warmer.  The benefits of a tea warmer is that they will not have to re-steep, and possibly lose some of the benefits from their loose leaf tea.

  • And lastly, will the gift be for a teapot collector or for decorative purposes only?  RoryDory’s offers teapots from the small to the tall in a variety of types, styles and patterns.  All our teapots are functional and FDA approved, so all you have to keep in mind is style, occasion or color.
Berta Hedstrom – English Bone China Teapots – Elegant/Traditional
Fielder Keepsakes – Fine Porcelain Teapots – Elegant/Victorian
Hues & Brews – Ceramic & Porcelain Teapots – Modern/Contemporary

So take a moment to look at the pages above and see if there is a heart warming gift for your Valentine!

Create your own unique Porcelain Tea Set

Dove Pattern submitted by Jane L. of Glastonbury, Ct.

If you purchase tea ware, you probably already know the high quality of the porcelain items from Fielder Keepsakes.  But what we sometimes forget, is the uniqueness of being able to customize our own tea set!

Pictured above is a gorgeous example.  This is a stunning tea set in the Doves pattern and you will not see a picture of the individual pieces……… but they are all available!

After a busy day or week, and we finally have some spare time for shopping online, we tend to look at the pictures of the products.  If something catches our eye, we then read the information about the product and make our purchase.  But with Fielder Keepsakes, there are over 100 patterns to select from, plus various shaped teapots and teacups, that not every pattern is displayed in all items available for purchase. Fielder Keepsakes offers a unique “decorate to order” system that makes it very easy to customize your tea set to fit your specific needs.  You can select your pattern and then select your style teapot, teacups, tea accessories and create a truly gorgeous, unique look just for you!

So, lets take a look at the Dove set.  We only have one picture of the Doves pattern and it is of the Victorian Mugs.  Jane fell in love with the pattern and wanted a complete tea set.  She customized her set by selecting the Ashley Teapot, Ashley Teacups, 8 inch Dessert Plates, the Embossed Cream & Sugar Set and the Oval Tea Tray. Now you are probably wondering how she did it with only the mugs pictured in the Doves pattern.  Once Jane had decided what styles she wanted, she simply placed the desired items into her shopping cart and upon checkout she placed the pattern name in the order comment box.  It did not matter what pattern was actually pictured on the Ashley teapot in the shopping cart, just that it was a Ashley teapot.

    Order comments:

That is the beauty of Fielder Keepsakes, they offer a variety of fine porcelain tea ware and gifts, that you can customize to your own desires-they even will create a pattern just for you!

We would like to thank Jane for providing us with these gorgeous pictures and reminding us of how creative & easy it is to have that “perfect” tea set.

Get your party off to a delectable start with this tempting treat.  Have fun by using cookie cutters and add a simple elegant twist!

    • Using desired cookie or biscuit cutters, cut shapes from slices of bread.  Whole grain, sourdough, or Italian breads work the best.
    • Spread one side of each cutout slice with butter.
    • Spread the unbuttered side of half of the bread cutouts with fig preserves.
    • Top the fig preserves with a favorite cheese (Brie, crumbled blue, goat cheese or white cheddar are some favorites).
    • Top with the remaining cutout slices, buttered side up.
Grill in a skillet or a press, turning once.  Grill until the cheese has melted and the bread is toasted to a golden brown.  Garnish with a dollop of preserves and minced green onions.

10 Tips for your French Press

#1 When using your French press with any loose tea, after you pour your first cup, do not leave the remaining tea in the beaker. Tea leaves continue to steep, and your tea will become bitter.

#2 If you intend to keep the coffee in the French Press hot for an extended period of time, consider a French Press with an insulated jacket or one made of double-walled glass.

#3 If your brewed coffee is murky looking, simply filter through a standard coffee filter.

#4 The coffee beans should be very coarsely ground; too fine a grind can result in a murky brew and clog the plunger.

#5 For each four-ounce cup of coffee, measure one tablespoon of ground coffee into the glass pot and four ounces of cold water into a teakettle

#6 If you have bad drinking water, Seek out a good water source before you start to brew your coffee.

#7 Once your water comes to a boil, remove it from the heat and count to 10. Counting to 10 gives the water just enough time to drop to the perfect temperature

#8 Use fresh coffee, coffee is perishable and will loose it’s flavor with age.

#9 French Presses can be used for steaming milk.

#10 Do not grind your beans before you are ready to start brewing. Ideally, less than a minute should elapse between grinding and starting the brewing process.

Let your coffee do the talking by using a French Press

The French press has been around since the 1850′s with the French and the Italians laying claims to its invention. The French press goes by various names around the world and is still popular today with a loyal following.

There are many benefits with using a French press, so lets take a look at a few of them….

    • You can make hot or cold coffee.
    • They offer optimal flavor, depth and richness from your coffee bean.
    • You have control of the brewing time.
    • They are quicker than a auto-drip coffeemaker.
    • Cold brewed coffee has a lower acid content which is perfect for persons with gastric reflux or chronic heartburn. It makes a smoother cup of coffee.
    • They are more portable and self-contained than other coffee makers.
    • The French press can be used for tea instead of a tea infuser.

French presses are pretty simple to use, just remove the plunger and pour in your coarse ground coffee or loose leaf tea. Add your water, stir gently and replace the plunger. Let it sit and brew for the allotted time. Then you push down the plunger to hold the grounds or leaves in the bottom of the beaker. Leave the plunger in place and pour out your coffee or tea.

We carry Hues & Brews French Presses because they offer the classic press in an updated shape and various fun colors. Each French press includes an easy to clean Pyrex beaker, stainless steel lid and stainless steel press mechanism. They are available in 12 and 36 ounce capacities and all parts are dishwasher safe.

Celebrate the tradition and pleasure in the timeless art of making exceptional coffee or tea!
